Teaching a workshop in pallet knife technique, my students were surprised to learn some of the textural effects that can be created with the knife. The brooding sky of this painting was ideal for an approach in which thin paint of subtle color us “smooshed around” using the flat of the knife. I admit that, once again, I was drawn by the complimentary orange and purple that dominate this scene.
