Both the teapot and the vase in the painting were virtually identical in color. The challenge was to capture the play of light on objects whose color is the same but who contrast with nearly opposite reflective quality. The brilliant yellow lemons break up what could have been monotony and, through the title, allowed a touch of whimsy.
